Pennsylvania Federation of Historical Societies Documents
The Pennsylvania Federation of Historical Societies (PFHS), later Pennsylvania Federation of Museums and Historical Organizations and now PA Museums, is an independent coalition of museums, historical societies, like institutions, and professionals founded in 1905 that work to support the funding and grants programs of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. In its early years, the PFHS worked to organize previous research of Pennsylvania's history, and to conduct and encourage new research in the field, as well as to increase communication and unity of Pennsylvania's historical societies. The organization was instrumental in helping to start Pennsylvania's Historical and Museum Commission in 1945.
The publications of the Pennsylvania Federation of Historical Societies contain annual reports and yearbooks. Selected topics from these publications include yearly happenings of the organization. The bulk of the current material is dated from 1905 to 1918.
